This course explores how the history of astrology reflects the evolution of psyche. Pre-modern astrology was event-oriented, concretely predictive, dualistic, and relatively deterministic, all of which reflected the dominant mode of consciousness of pre-modern periods. Over the past century, astrology has become progressively more abstract, psychological, open-ended and indeterminate, which seems to reflect a change in collective awareness. Accordingly, this course will examine the history of astrology in the context of human development and consciousness evolution. Interpretive and counseling techniques of different eras will be examined as a way of comparing and contrasting pre-modern, modern, and post-modern astrology.
